Friends in the Field: Asylum Photo

I’m back with the second post in my “Friends in the Field” series where I introduce you to some of my good friends who are also photographers.  This next person that I want to put in the spotlight is someone who I have known since moving to the Washington, DC area.  Little did I know when meeting this person on the first day of my then new job, that they would become one of my closest friends who would also influence and push me and my photography to where it is today.

I met Jason back in July 2006 while working at a photo lab in Rockville, MD.  I remember thinking to myself the first time I saw him, “Man, this guy looks all kinds of crazy!”  He manned and maintained the massive printer while I would receive customers’ orders, process film, and do photo restorations.  After about a week of working there, Jason and I became very efficient while working together.  We were like a well oiled machine that could only be sent off course by our “Michael Scott” of a boss.

After two years, we ended up getting an apartment together that we also used as a studio.  By sharing our equipment and techniques, our photography skills greatly improved.  We fed off of each others knowledge and pushed one another to the next level.

Jason does incredible portraiture work with mainly female models.  At the start, Jason’s work was extremely colorful and eye-catching while having creative concepts behind it all. His work caught the attention of many people, and he quickly found himself receiving requests from several people to work together.  After a while, Jason wanted to tackle a new challenge and moved on to black and white fine art nudes.  With the combination of his lighting and visualization of the body’s various shapes, he produces some great shots!

If it wasn’t for our mutual interest in photography, this is one great friend that I most likely would have never met.
